How many silk worms does it take?
We partnered up with a US content creation firm, to bring you the latest story behind our ethical fashion.
It’s all about the silk worm.
Did you know between 40-50,000 silk worms are boiled alive to make just one silk blouse on the high street?
Not many people do…. The larvae needs two weeks in their cocoon feeding off the silk inside leaving only half as much silk by the time they are ready to break free and fly off as moths. It is before this process begins that fast fashion and mainstream silk producers choose to by pass ethics and kill the silkworms instead, keeping their cocoons intact. It also means that it takes longer to weave the broken silk fibres and is thus a more expensive process, but it is more respectful to nature.
