Kitty Ferreira @ Rehema Ethical Fashion Show 2014 #INSIDEOUT
Breaking news from Kitty Ferreira HQ! The fashion label has been selected to sashay its amazing collection @ this year’s Rehema Ethical Fashion Show. Yeaaaah, applause, applause… Great news! Why is this great, big, news? Great, big, news because the Rehema ethical fashion show supports the fantastic Rehema project which is an initiative that works to support and collaborate with women who live under extremely strenuous and difficult conditions in Africa. The project helps these women come out of extreme poverty by teaching them valuable textiles skills, which gives them the opportunity to provide for their families.
It is a fantastic project, which supports the local community, providing basic food for schools, feeding over 500 orphans daily. Without this support, a lot of the women would be forced into compromising situations, selling their bodies, stealing or sending their children to be raised by other family members.
Unfortunately, governments all over Africa are never held accountable for allowing these despicable situations.
Organisations like Rehema are vital to the developing world, they are an ‘on the field’ charity that ensures that the money raised gets in the right hands and is used the right way. Rehema aims to give women back hope and dignity.
So what to expect at the show? The event is being held on Thursday 1st May 2014 at 7pm. The venue is St Pauls in Hammersmith, next to the tube station (W6 9PJ). A small group of London college of Fashion students (Ethical Fashion Collective) are organising a large ethical fashion show, to raise money for the Rehema project and awareness around the issues of ethical fashion.
The evening will begin with an ethical fashion Q&A; at last year’s event industry speakers such as the CEO of the Komodo brand Joe Komodo, Drapers editor in Chief Caroline Nodder and Sandy Black author of The Sustainable Fashion Handbook (book mentioned in my previous post ‘Top 4 books on ethical fashion for the novice’).
This year’s exciting new panel includes:
• Safia Minney (Founder of People Tree)
• Lucy Siegle (BBC One Show presenter, Ethical columnist for The Guardian plus The Observer and whose book To Die For: Is Fashion Wearing Out the World? was also mentioned in my post ‘Top 4 books on ethical fashion for the novice’ – looking forward to her talk)
• Ben Ramsden (Founder of Pants to Poverty)
• Tamsin Lejeune (Managing Director of Ethical Fashion Forum)
• Sam Maher (Director of Policy and International Solidarity at Labour behind the Label)
• Kate Dangerfield (Global campaigns and communications coordinator at Stop the Traffik)
There will be multiple stalls to shop and browse from as well as a fantastic fashion show showcasing established and new up and coming ethical fashion brands including People Tree, Komodo, Arthur & Henry, Ruby Rocks, Liora Lasselle, Choolips, Fair & True, Nancy Dee, Mia by Mia Nisbit, Jaded LDN, Monkee Genes, Cock and Bull, Riz Boardshorts, Reborn, Brothers we stand, yours truly Kitty Ferreira and many more…
Perfect opportunity to come down and check out for yourself what the Ethical Fashion Movement is all about and discover some great labels including our own Kitty Ferreira. You’re personally invited to come see the Kitty Ferreira collection come to life before your very own eyes, it should make for an interesting, eye opening, fun event.
